Movie Review: GalaxyQuest

Released:1999

GalaxyQuest is a not so bad comedy sci-fi.I think some trekkys might like it more than I . If it wasn't for some real good jokes and Sigourney Weaver showing off her cleavage more and more as the movie went on. That got my attention, and kept it for the whole movie lol.

4/10 for humor

Swimfan this movie shows us that obsession can some times go to far. It's nice to be on top but sometimes you can't stay their. This movie mite keep some people on the edge of there seat.

Movie Review: SuperStar

Released:1999

Superstar is a comedy that could leave you laughing or crying. It is one of those if you like it stupid or funny you'll love this one.

Mary Katherine Gallagher(Molly Shannon) is not the most popular girl, but I give her an A+ for the effort. All she wants to be is a superstar and have her first kiss with Sky Corrigan (Will Ferrell). I'm going to let you see it and I'll let you make up your mind if it's funny or not.

Movie Review: Patton

The movie Patton shows us that knowing history about battles is definitely a bonus. This movie shows that knowing your enemy enables you to win against outstanding odds and how not liking your commanding officers doesn't matter because you can still win by his leadership. You may not like his methods. There are historical battles in this movie fought against the Germans. Patton's speeches were inspiring towards his soldiers.

I recommend this movie if you are a history buff.

Movie Review: Dangerous Minds

Released: 1995

This film is a must for any Michelle Pfeiffer fan. I think it is one of her best performances. This is also based on a true life story. She is hired on as a school teacher for a class full of misfits and degenerates. and takes them from a class of students who don't care to a students actually wanting to learn. She became one of them bending and twisting the rules and changes their lives. This story shows what one person whose underpaid can do.

Movie Review: Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead

Andy Garcia plays a gangster whose run out of time and who has been told to leave town or he will be killed. He has unfinished business to take care of first. The head boss puts a hit out on his whole crew and they start dropping like flies. Andy Garcia plays Jimmy the Saint. Jimmy the Saint is in love with a girl and knows he can't take her with him. At the same time, he is trying to tell her that he is totally in love with her. Other well known actors in this movie are Christopher Walken and Gabrielle Anwar.

Movie Review: The Longest Day

Released: 1962

The greatest cast ever assembled in the greatest war film ever made. This cast consists of over 42 international stars including John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Sean Connery. This movie portrays the landing on D Day and how disorder and mayhem can still lead to victory.

I very enjoyed this movie even though it was black and white. It made me aware of different things that happened on D Day from the parachuting to the boats landing on the shore to the resistance that disabled communications in Normandy.

Movie Review: Rain Man

Released: 1988

In this well put together drama, Tom Cruise is alienated from his father and is on his way to becoming a very successful businessman. When he is told during one of his business deals that his father has passed away, he thinks that his father has left him everything. He realizes there is an executor and its not him. He later finds out that he has a brother with a special gift.

Movie Review: Space Cowboys

Released: 2000

Space Cowboys has 4 very well established actors, Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and James Garner. This movie would have to be one of the funniest movies I have seen Clint Eastwood play in. Its about 4 most unlikely astronauts not because of their talents but because of their age. This movie lets you think that just because you are over the hill doesn't mean you are out of the game. Very good humour. A must see for any Clint Eastwood fan.

Movie Review: Cherry Hill High

Released: 1976

Cherry Hill High is another cheesy movie. Besides the gratuitous nudity, there's really nothing to see here. I didn't see any up and coming actors in this movie.

Get ready for the wildest summer ever as five gorgeous coeds vie to see who can lose their virginity in the most original way. As the contest progresses, the girls take on shark fighters, chickens, and race car drivers, Martians and ghosts until the surprise winner is finally announced.

Movie Review: The First Turn-On

Released: 1983

This is one of the cheesiest movies I have seen in a long time. I've seen some strange and bizarre movies and this is up there with very, very strange. The only thing that makes this worth watching is the booby shots LOL and that it has Vincent D'Onfrio's debut performance. He later became known for his role in Full Metal Jacket. It also has the Penthouse Pet of the Year, Sheila Kennedy, as Ellie.

This movie is about a summer camp and its last day of summer when hikers get separated from the group and end up trapped in a cave. They then tell stories of their "first time".

TV Series Review: Prison Break Season One

Prison Break Season One is a well put together tv show. It starts off with two brothers- one of them is accused of killing the Vice President of the United States brother and is on deathrow. The other brother has just been arrested of armed robbery of a bank. If you don't like this so far, this is where the twist comes. The brother arrested for armed robbery, Michael, was arrested on purpose and has a plan to escape maximum security prison with his brother. If that still doesn't have your attention, throw in inmates, crooked guards, an ex-girlfriend, strippers and you got yourself an awesome tv show.

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopoholic

Genre: Comedy

Synopsis:

Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a sweet and charming New York City girl who has a tiny, little problem that is rapidly turning into a big problem: she's hopelessly addicted to shopping and drowning in a sea of debt. While Rebecca has dreams of working for a top fashion magazine, she can't quite get her foot in the door—that is, until she snags a job as an advice columnist for a new financial magazine published by the same company.

Overnight, her column becomes hugely popular, turning her into an overnight celebrity, but when her compulsive shopping and growing debt issues threaten to destroy her love life and derail her career, she struggles to keep it all from spiraling out of control...and is ultimately forced to reevaluate what's really important in life.

Based on the best-selling series of books by Sophie Kinsella.

Review:

This is definitely a chick flick, but a good one in my opinion. There is some good humour with some of the situations that the main character, Becky Bloomwood, found herself in. It was almost painful to watch at some points especially the sticky situation she found herself in when trying to retrieve some misdirected mail that could have potentially blown her entire career! John Goodman and Jane Cusack as Becky's parents were hilarious! They really stole the show.

This is a good movie to watch as a couple because the girl will love it. My girlfriend watched this movie with me and she laughed a lot. At the end of the movie, she told me it was quite different from the book. The names and descriptions of all the characters were the same, but there were BIG differences in terms of plot and setting. Confessions of a Shopoholic is one of her favourite books and she is very familiar with Sophie Kinsella's work. In fact, her love of the books was the main reason for us watching the movie!

Anyways, the setting was wrong. The book took place in London, England and NOT NYC. All the characters were British and NOT American. Luke Brandon did not run Simply Savings magazine. He owned his own business called Brandon Communications in the book. Other than these glaring differences, the movie and book were pretty close.

For a comedy, I rate this 7/10.

Movie Review: Braveheart

Review:

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I have yet to find a movie that comes close to this one. It has everything in it: love, war, betrayal, drama,and a lot of action scenes. The best part that I enjoyed was the revenge that they forced William Wallace to do when all he wanted was to live peacefully.The king ran things with a iron fist which became his downfall. The prince was another story; he was weak and more feminine than most.

It's a long movie but because of the history it kept my interest. It's based on the invasion of Scotland by England back in the 13th century. I liked that one of the main characters was Irish because that's my background.

One thing I should mention is that this movie is really gory. The battle scenes are graphic with limbs being severed and blood everywhere. The sex scenes were PG unfortunately, but I still enjoyed them.

There are so many things in this movie and if you have not seen it I hope you get a chance to pick it up and give it a watch.

My First Post

Well where do I begin?  First off to introduce myself, my name is John and I am 34 years old and I live in Canada.  I'm starting this blog because I own over 2000 movies. I've been collecting them for 19 years and I still don't have my collection to where I want it. 

I have both VHS and DVDs in my collection with the DVDs being something I started adding most recently. I collect all genres and it's difficult to pick a favourite, but if I had to I would say action thrillers.  I'll watch anything once and I often buy movies before I even watch them. If I don't like it, I'll still keep it, but it will sit on my shelf collecting dust never to be watched again. 

My goal for this blog is to write reviews on movies I have seen.  I plan to also offer giveaways from time to time as well.  I hope anyone that is reading this enjoys what I have to say.
